I’m starting a new series titled Label Love, which will feature my favourite designers and brands from around the world. These will be unique brands that have caught my fancy for one of many reasons, they could have an interesting story, a one of a kind aesthetic, they could be eco-friendly, reviving forgotten crafts, or even give back to society in some way. One thing is for sure though, brands featured in the Label Love series will be inspirational, individualistic, and above all, have heart.
The first label that makes the cut is Priyanjoli, the brainchild of Chennai based, Kolkata born designer & stylist Priyanjoli Basu. After studying fashion in London, she wanted to work directly with weavers in her home state to not only create unique fabrics, but to empower their lives, provide them with work, and revive the handloom craft. Her aesthetic combines crisp, sheer cottons and silks with modern silhouettes made for the global woman. Believing in the beauty of handmade and socially conscious design, each piece is versatile and created with the utmost care. Finding inspiration in the unstitched cloth, her business helps support the families of rural weavers while modernising and mainstreaming the handloom traditions of Bengal.
The silhouettes range from casual skirts, tops, kurtas & scarves to traditional saree’s and indo-western styles in the softest fabrics, gorgeous colours and interesting detailing such as pin tucks, buttons, borders & print mixing. She’s relaunching her website www.Priyanjoli.com this Diwali, and it’s the perfect place to shop for the lady in your life who loves clothing with soul and a story.
I’m in a custom made white & navy blue midi kaftan, shot by Priyanjoli’s husband and master photographer Varun Gupta in Goa, India.
Be back soon with more of my favourite designers, brands and stories only in the Label Love series. Stay tuned, lovelies!
