Print Mixing

I’m going to talk about something I’m basically obsessed with- print on print. This has been a favourite trend of mine since I was in college, in fact my graduating collection was all about print clashing and the pants are from that show. I don’t care what anyone says, there is a way to rock this trend season after season, year after year. The beauty of this trend is its versatility, you can pair geometric prints, florals, graphic prints, paisley, colour block, monotones, block prints… basically anything you want. Many people shy away from this style of dressing because it can be daunting, but you’ll be seeing lots of it on my blog. I find myself unusually drawn to prints, they seem to project all the wild, colourful, weird things going on in my head 🙂

In my look, Ive paired a teal paisley print TopShop bomber jacket with an aqua Victoria’s Secret bikini top, the pants are from my graduating collection, and also feature paisley in a more neutral palette. So in this case Ive done a few things to make sure my outfit doesn’t clash:

• I’ve kept all 3 pieces in a bohemian paisley print,
• I’ve made sure there is one (or more) colour reflecting in the different pieces I’m wearing, in this case green/teal, brown, yellow, and pink are all reflected in more than one piece.
• Keep the accessories to a minimum. I’ve worn a simple Accessorize aqua heart pendant. The last rule doesn’t always apply, it depends on what types of prints you’re mixing and what kind of accessories you prefer. If you’re like me and love lots of piled on jewellery, then more power to you! I would go with one really nice statement piece, and some simple staples to compliment it (a watch if you wear one, simple gold/silver layers on your wrists or neck, or a couple of rings).
