For today’s post I’m going to talk about how you can take a simple floral maxi dress and elevate it to a semi-formal look. First of all, when picking a maxi for a semi-formal or evening event, pay attention to the fabric, it shouldn’t be straight up casual cotton, and should have a nice, soft flow. Second, you want to pick something in a dark print or in a solid colour such as wine, navy, black or purple, daytime florals and pastel prints can’t easily translate to night. My dress is in dark blue, black, green & red floral, which is a good option for evening. Third, you want to pick something with sleeves, an interesting low back or a more formal cut. Stay away from elastic waistbands like it’s your job, because nothing makes a nice dress go bad quicker than elastic. The dress should ideally have a zip closure, and fit your body well. Fourth, add a pop of lipstick or do heavier makeup than normal to balance out the fact that your wearing a casual outfit formally, hair looks nice open or in a feminine up do, and a pair of heels and a clutch completes the look!
This is the final part of my collaboration with Missa More Clothing, and I’ve had a blast styling their cute, affordable pieces to match my style. If you’re looking for the latest trends at throwaway prices, then do check out www.MissaMore.com. The finish & quality of the pieces is along the lines of Forever21, which means pretty good but not amazing, something to keep in mind when shopping affordable brands. If you want couture quality, be ready to pay couture prices. I love Missa More because I can indulge my inner shopaholic and look on trend without breaking the bank.
Stay tuned for another exciting post, hitting the blog in a few short, sweet days. Till then check out my other articles covering fashion, beauty & travel! Happy reading xxx
