Because sometimes you just need to feel good, inside out.
1. Get some sun
Pretend you’re a cat & find the sunniest spot in your house to lay around in. Warm sun on bare skin is honest-to-god one of the best feelings in the universe, plus you get all that lovely vitamin D. Bask like it’s your job.
2. Scrub yourself with a yummy body exfoliator
Soft, smooth skin like a baby’s bottom is everyone’s dream. Find a delicious smelling body scrub (or make your own with my recipe), jump into a hot shower for a minute to open up your pores, lightly towel dry your skin while still leaving it a bit moist and then proceed to get in your cardio for the day by vigorously scrubbing your whole body in circular motions for at least 15-20 minutes. Rinse & finish showering, then apply some coconut oil to wet skin before drying off with a towel as usual (this locks in the perfect amount of moisture).
3. Perform a random act of kindness
Give up your taxi to someone who needs it more, buy your rickshaw driver a beverage on your daily coffee run, help your neighbour with their bags, donate your old clothes to charity, volunteer at the local old age home, or sponsor a slum child’s school fees. The options are endless, but if you are lucky enough to have a comfortable life then it’s your duty as a human to give back.
4. Clean out your favourite, everyday handbag (we all know theres all kinds of random junk in there)
Women and their bags are an endless love affair, and if you’re one of 99.9% of women who have their lives in their purse then there are likely to be a whole mess of things in there ranging from your essentials to food wrappers, old receipts, makeup, random jewelry, a mint from 1999, your neighbours dog. Clean it all out! Throw out the trash and make a pile of things you need, wipe everything down with a damp cloth, turn your bag inside out and dust it out, neatly put everything back. Welcome to the new, organised you. No more digging frantically just to find your keys.
5. Wake up early and go feed some stray animals the first meal of their day
You know all those friendly wagging tails & chirpy meows in your neighborhood? They probably wont eat anything except garbage today. Boil some rice and chicken bits, add a little milk and a pinch of salt and boil until its a thick mixture (you can even add some doggy dry food or eggs to this and mix it up). Put it in a plastic bucket, take a spoon and some newspaper to use as plates and feed your new best friends. They’ll be more grateful than you’ll ever know
6. De-clutter your room & light a scented candle
My room routinely becomes a maze of plastic bags, clothes, shoes, books, my electronics, and all kinds of things. My mind becomes scattered too. Don’t try to do everything on one day, but pick one day a week to clean something out, even if its just one drawer. Throw out the junk, wipe your drawer with a cloth, re-arrange everything else. It’s seriously therapeutic, and makes me feel like my mind is calmer and less cluttered too. Once everything is neat & tidy, light a gorgeous smelling candle and just chill in your newly breathable space.
7. Take a warm shower, moisturise your whole body & put on the softest piece of clothing you own
This one needs no explanation, and its something thats guaranteed to make me feel good every single time. Use the nicest smelling products you can find in the bath, afterwards take a luscious moisturiser and massage on a nice thick layer. I bought a robe made out of the softest jersey fabric from the maternity section of a store, and it was the best thing I ever purchased, complete this with my fuzzy socks and I’m in comfort heaven.
8. Get down to that pesky task you’ve been putting off for weeks
You know what it is, and you’ve been procrastinating for days, if not months. It could be as simple as cleaning out your closet, deleting junk emails, or going to the gym. Do it and do it now. I promise you’ll feel awesome when you’re done.
9. Find a patch of grass and walk on it without shoes
There’s something so soothing about being barefoot outside, like going back to your roots as a human. Take those damn shoes off and let your toes scrunch the grass & wiggle around in the dirt (its just a little mud and you can wash it off later). Feel one with the flowers, trees & plants around you. Nature is the best therapist.
10. Spend some time with your grandparents, or any elderly person in your life
Not only will they pass on the wisdom of their years, they’ll also tell you fascinating stories, pamper you with affection and food, and be more thankful than any other person for the company. Ask them all those deep questions you have, like if marriage really works or what the key to a happy life is. They won’t be around forever, and when they go, their stories will go with them. Some of my fondest memories are of my grandma telling me stories of her childhood.
11. Get sweaty
Put on your favourite song and jump around, walk up and down stairs, join a class, take your dog for a walk, or whatever gets your heart pumping and releases some endorphins. This is a surefire way of feeling great, you just need a little motivation to get going. Your skin will glow, you will feel fit and strong, and your body will thank you!
I hope you enjoyed reading about some things that always make me feel great. What do you do when you want to feel like a beautiful human? Have a blissful week, dear readers!
